Adam Lin is a Partner in VLP's corporate, securities and Asia groups. His primary passion and focus is to provide sound and practical advice to entrepreneurs, companies, angel investors and venture capital firms in areas such as corporate formation, business and technology transactions, and company management and operations. Adam is a native speaker of and reads and writes Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese and has basic conversational skills in Japanese. He has served as legal counsel to many China- and Taiwan-focused companies and investors in Silicon Valley as well as in the People's Republic of China and Taiwan. Adam is experienced in venture capital financings, corporate restructurings (reincorporation within the U.S. and inversion of a U.S. company to an offshore company), mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings.

Adam is active in Asian American technology associations, such as Taiwanese American Industrial Technology Association, where he serves as a board advisor, and Monte Jade Science and Technology Association, where he served as a trip advisor.

Prior to joining VLP, Adam was a member of China Practice Group of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, a major global law firm, representing start-up companies and venture capital firms. While at Orrick, Adam also led the charge for developing Orrick's corporate practice in Taiwan. Adam began his legal career at Davis Polk & Wardwell, a New York-based Wall Street law firm, representing Morgan Stanley, Citigroup and other major underwriters in initial public offerings and other capital market transactions.

Before becoming an attorney, Adam worked as an engineer at HsinChu Science and Technology Park in Taiwan and was a founder of two start-up companies in Silicon Valley. In addition to his legal degree, Adam has a M.S. degree from Stanford University and a B.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Adam received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude (top 5% of the class) and was a member of the Order of the Coif. He was also the Senior Managing Editor of the Hastings Law Journal. While getting his legal degree, Adam worked for Chief Justice Ronald George of California Supreme Court and for Federal Judge Ronald Whyte of the Northern District Court of California. Adam is a member of the State Bar of California.
