Andy Toebben is a Partner in VLP's corporate and securities groups. He specializes in all areas of business law, with a primary focus on the formation, financing and successful execution of start-ups in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and the greater emerging growth company marketplace.
Andy's representation of companies spans the entire corporate life-cycle, including pre-incorporation business advice, general corporate counseling to solve business problems and achieve business objectives, venture capital financings, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions. He also represents the nation's leading venture capital firms in their private financings. Andy began his legal career in the Silicon Valley office of Gunderson, Dettmer, Stough, Villeneuve, Franklin & Hachigian, LLP, one of the nation's premier business law firms for entrepreneurs, emerging growth companies and their investors.
In the fall of 2008, Andy took a leave of absence from the law firm to serve on then Senator Barack Obama's Campaign for Change. As Deputy Director of Voter Protection, he led the presidential campaign's legal efforts to protect the vote in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He returned to the Bay Area committed to advancing the Administration's calls for hope and change and is an active member of VLP's Community Service Committee.
Andy received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He received his bachelor's degrees in economics and sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated with highest honors and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. During his junior year, he played shooting guard on Cambridge University's varsity basketball team while studying Keynesian economics in England. Prior to law school, Andy served as an Urban Fellow for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in New York City and a Leland Fellow for the Congressional Hunger Center in Washington DC. He also lived in a Maasai village on the Kenyan / Tanzanian border and backpacked, hitchhiked and motorcycled through South America while living with families in Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Andy is a member of the State Bar of California and a Jayhawk for life.
