Chiahua Pan is a corporate and insurance law partner of VLP based in the New York area. She has practiced for over 20 years in insurance law, servicing major U.S. and international insurance companies, investment banks, insurance brokers and other participants in the insurance industry. Chiahua concentrates her practice in life settlements, premium finance, life and annuity securitizations, insurance and reinsurance transactions, capital markets transactions including insurance-linked notes and securitizations, structured insurance and reinsurance-related products, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate reorganizations. She has advised domestic and foreign, onshore and offshore insurance companies, bulge bracket Investment banks, including, among others, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Prudential, Lehman, MONY, their advisors and servicers and has experience in the life insurance and annuities, property and casualty and financial guaranty sectors.
Chiahua's experience also includes Triple X financings, closed block securitizations, policy warehousing facilities, derivative products, transformer structures, regulatory issues including investments, licensing, agent issues, financial guarantee issues, risk-based capital issues, marketing and sales practices and rehabilitation and insolvency questions.
Chiahua was previously a partner in the Capital Markets group of the New York office of Morrison & Foerster LLP. Prior to that, she served as special counsel at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and at Sullivan & Cromwell. Chiahua received a B.A. from Radcliffe College, M.A.s from Columbia University and Yale University and a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. She serves as co-chair of the Insurance and Reinsurance Committee of the International Section of the New York State Bar Association.
